CBW Tournament Rules

Major League Rules with MANY Modifications

  • Lead offs are allowed for all ages.
  • Designated Hitter is allowed (10-man line-up may be used) for any player.  The DH is “locked” with the positional player he is DH’ing
  • Extra Hitter(s) – may be used; however they must always bat in the tenth (eleventh, twelfth, etc. spot). EH’s may enter the field after the first inning defensively, as well for any position player.
  • Re-Entry: allowed for all age groups
  • Speed Up Rule: run for catcher & pitcher at any time.  We will use the last batted out.  If there is no batted out for that inning, it must be a sub.  If batting all and there is not out for that inning, you will use the last batter up that specific inning.
  • Balk rules:
    • 12U – 1 warning per pitcher during pool play and tournament
    • 13U – one warning per pitcher during pool play, then straight baseball during tournament
    • 14U/15U/16U – straight baseball the entire time (no warnings)
  • The 3rd to 1st pick-off move is not allowed.
  • No pitching limitations (coach’s discretion). BE SMART!
  • All games will be six (6) innings in length or a 2-hour time limit.  If the game is tied after 6 innings and time has not reached the 1:55 mark, we will continue. No new inning will be started 5 minutes before 2-hour time limit is up.  If time permits, the game will go into extra innings, if tied.
  • There is no time limit in the first round of the tournament (Wednesday) or in the winner’s bracket.
  • Time limits are put back on for all consolation bracket games on Wednesday and Thursday
  • The “Mercy Rule” will be used (if one team leads another by 10 runs or more after only 4 innings of play, the game is over).  This also applies during the tournament!
  • The “Kill Rule” will be used if one team is ahead by 20 runs after 3 innings of play
  • CBW Tournament Directors have the Option of officially calling a game after 4 innings of the weather is inclement and they do not feel the game can be continued.  If the game is stopped for weather and is resumed, it will resume in the exact position that it was left in, no matter what the circumstances (e.g. bottom 2nd, 1 out, man on 2nd).
  • Pool Play tiebreakers, will be determined by the following criteria in this specific order: Head-to Head competition, Least Runs Allowed, Quality Wins (pools are combined for seeding)
  • All protests must be made at the game, to the umpire and the official scorekeeper, before the next pitch is thrown or before the next baseball play occurs.  A tournament director must be called to the field to handle the situation before the games is resumed.  No protests will be heard after the game is over.  You cannot protest a judgment call, please understand this and adhere to the rules to keep the game moving.
  • Slide Rule – a player must slide OR avoid contact (umpire’s discretion). No diving or hurdling over a player
  • Head-first sliding is permitted into each base.

  • There is to be no seeds, gum or food on the field, in the dugout or in the warm-up area!  The first offense is a warning.  The 2nd offense is the ejection from that game, plus 2 more – of both player and coach!
