Major League Rules with MANY Modifications
- Lead offs are allowed for all ages.
- Designated Hitter is allowed (10-man line-up may be used) for any player. The DH is “locked” with the positional player he is DH’ing
- Extra Hitter(s) – may be used; however they must always bat in the tenth (eleventh, twelfth, etc. spot). EH’s may enter the field after the first inning defensively, as well for any position player.
- Re-Entry: allowed for all age groups
- Speed Up Rule: run for catcher & pitcher at any time. We will use the last batted out. If there is no batted out for that inning, it must be a sub. If batting all and there is not out for that inning, you will use the last batter up that specific inning.
- Balk rules:
- 12U – 1 warning per pitcher during pool play and tournament
- 13U – one warning per pitcher during pool play, then straight baseball during tournament
- 14U/15U/16U – straight baseball the entire time (no warnings)
- The 3rd to 1st pick-off move is not allowed.
- No pitching limitations (coach’s discretion). BE SMART!
- All games will be six (6) innings in length or a 2-hour time limit. If the game is tied after 6 innings and time has not reached the 1:55 mark, we will continue. No new inning will be started 5 minutes before 2-hour time limit is up. If time permits, the game will go into extra innings, if tied.
- There is no time limit in the first round of the tournament (Wednesday) or in the winner’s bracket.
- Time limits are put back on for all consolation bracket games on Wednesday and Thursday
- The “Mercy Rule” will be used (if one team leads another by 10 runs or more after only 4 innings of play, the game is over). This also applies during the tournament!
- The “Kill Rule” will be used if one team is ahead by 20 runs after 3 innings of play
- CBW Tournament Directors have the Option of officially calling a game after 4 innings of the weather is inclement and they do not feel the game can be continued. If the game is stopped for weather and is resumed, it will resume in the exact position that it was left in, no matter what the circumstances (e.g. bottom 2nd, 1 out, man on 2nd).
- Pool Play tiebreakers, will be determined by the following criteria in this specific order: Head-to Head competition, Least Runs Allowed, Quality Wins (pools are combined for seeding)
- All protests must be made at the game, to the umpire and the official scorekeeper, before the next pitch is thrown or before the next baseball play occurs. A tournament director must be called to the field to handle the situation before the games is resumed. No protests will be heard after the game is over. You cannot protest a judgment call, please understand this and adhere to the rules to keep the game moving.
- Slide Rule – a player must slide OR avoid contact (umpire’s discretion). No diving or hurdling over a player
- Head-first sliding is permitted into each base.
- Metal spikes are only permitted for the 13U – 16U age divisions. NO METALS SPIKES ON FIELDS 1 OR 2 EVER!
- No fake bunts/slashing/butcher boy. If you show bunt, you must either bunt or pull back, no pull back swings permitted.
- Dugouts: Home team is in the 1st base dugout
- No jewelry may be worn during games (e.g., earrings, necklaces, rings, etc.). If jewelry is required for medical or religious reasons, then it must be taped down for each game
- It is required that every player wear a double earflap protective helmet while batting, on deck, in coaches’ boxes, and running bases.
- There is to be no seeds, gum or food on the field, in the dugout or in the warm-up area! The first offense is a warning. The 2nd offense is the ejection from that game, plus 2 more – of both player and coach!
- The use of all tobacco products by athletes and game personnel (coaches, umpires, etc.) is prohibited. There is also no smoking on or near the fields or outside of the dormitories!
- Only those coaches, both FT and PT who were paid for, may be in the dugouts. No scorekeepers if not paid for. No batboys if they are not paid for as well!
- In the event of rain, no infield practice will be allowed at all!
- Weather permitting, there is only one infield practice permitted on the field each day
- No alcohol is allowed on campus property or at the baseball fields – SUNY Oneonta is a dry campus!
- 12U Base paths: 70 ft. Pitching Mound: 50 ft.
- 13U-16U Base paths: 90 ft. Pitching Mound: 60 ft. 6 in.
- Bat Diameter for 12U maximum 2 3/4
- Bat Diameter for 13U & older maximum 2 5/8
- Bat Length: 13U-16U maximum 36 inches
- All bats for 12U must have USA Bat Stamp, USSSA 1.15 BPF Mark or be ALL WOOD.
- All bats for 13U must have either a USA Bat Stamp, USSSA 1.15 BPF Mark, be ALL WOOD, or be BBCOR approved drop 3 (-3) or BBCORE drop 5 (-5).
- All Bats for 14U and older must be BBCOR approved drop 3 (-3) or drop 5 (-5) or be ALL WOOD.
- Wood bats allowed for ALL age divisions, but NOT a requirement for any age division. Must be ALL WOOD, no composite pieces.
- The use of any illegal bat listed below will result in an out and automatic ejection of the player.
